OK, so I’m a shopper. Anyone else? My dad gave up on the concept of budgeting with me in high school thinking I was a bit of a lost cause when it came to managing money. (He may be a little right!?) Hopefully, I can say I’ve matured a little bit in this area. Through my work with Bridging Herstory, I am learning the incredible impact your purchases can have when directed towards small business. Meeting the faces of the women who create products, knowing the research and intentionality that goes into crafting their goods, understanding that orders mean little celebrations and choosing to spend money that literally pays the bills of its creators has caused me to spend money differently.

Choosing to “buy small” and “purchase slow” means there has to be a level of intentionality in your spending. Maybe you will have to make a trip to the farmer’s market to pick up your favorite almond butter rather than at your last minute stop at the big box grocery. You may have to forego multiple options because the price of purchasing locally only allows one item for the budget. (One fragrance of deodorant, not 3! 🙂

Conscious spending feels good. When I use my “Wellness Spray” from Soak your Soul, I know the hands of Melyssa that made my product. I feel connected in my everyday life to many incredible women using their lives to make the world more beautiful through their products.

Realistically, my list of favorites is a variety of small business products along with items from some of my favorite stores. This is a journey that I am still on and am convinced that it is worth the extra dollar and extra minute. As I continue with my work with female entrepreneurs I am hopeful that more and more of my household items will come from their hands. If you know great makers of similar products to what I have listed as my favorites, I would love to be introduced.

I am excited to take you inside my home (yes! All of these products are lying around my house!!) and share with you why I love them and maybe even convince you that a little shopping spree should be in your future plans!

No Paragons, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde or other things I can’t pronounce! Mrs. Meyer’s brand stocks our bathroom sinks with its plant derived ingredients and essential oils. I’ve heard that scent is the greatest trigger of memory out of all 5 senses. My dear friend Allison gave me Mrs. Meyer’s Peony cleaner when we moved into our house a year ago in our housewarming basket (yes she is precious!). Now every time I smell it, I’m reminded of the happy days when we first moved in! I get all the feels.

Winking Owl Wine from Aldi
Shop Local

Can you really get an amazing bottle of wine for less than $3 bucks!?!  Yessss!!! My answer is yesssssss!! Often I prefer my Aldi Winking Owl Wine over a bottle that is 4 times the price. Rumor has it, this gem has even won awards. My go to bottle is their Cabernet Sauvignon. Also, don’t get me started on Aldi- it’s a hidden treasure that more people should shop at, not only is their cheese selection out of this world, and their prices affordable, but they take incredible care of their employees!

Did you know Almond butter can change your life? Rachel hears from her customers often how incredibly grateful they are for her product, and not only do I looove her almond butter she has become a dear friend of mine! Made from only the finest ingredients and with minimal processing, Revival’s almond butter stands apart from the others. In fact, each small batch is not put through a heating process, which tends to make the butter have a more sticky consistency, but the nuts are stone ground in order to preserve the flavor and textures best. I add a spoonful or two to my morning smoothies for protein and love an afternoon snack of smeared apples with her original flavor! Rachel is hustling getting these jars into many different stores, amongst keeping up with production and her 9-month-old son, Jonathan!! Once you try her almond butter you won’t go back!! Speaking of trying it.. here is a code for 15% off just for the bridging herstory community: Use Bridgingherstory15 in checkout.

When you wear this line of fragrance I guarantee you that people will ask, “What is that?! It’s incredible”. I recently switched to their all natural deodorant after being a dove girl for 10+ years. I’ve always felt a little twinge of guilt slathering my armpits (right next to lymph nodes and breast tissue) with a product full of aluminum and chemicals. Ambre Blends is what I needed to make the switch! It smells amazing and the quality of ingredients is worth it all! They just recently launched “AHNU” their newest scent, and have loved my new smell!

Coffee!!

I know this is cheating a little since coffee isn’t a particular product, but I had to include it! I’m the kind of girl that milks (pun intended!)  one cup of coffee all day! I’ll start with it hot in the morning, slowly sip on it and then turn it into iced coffee for the afternoon. I’m a fan of bringing my clients and friends to a local shop called Hubbard and Cravens to introduce them to a smaller business. My go-to at Starbucks currently is the iced almond milk cinnamon macchiato with have the sweetener. If I’m making an iced coffee at home in these summer days, I love using Trader Joe’s coffee concentrate! All the above are wonderful options.

I always burn this candle during my coaching sessions because it brings me so much happiness and helps “set the mood” for an incredible coaching call with some incredible girl bosses! Anthropologie is one of the places I go to find inspiration- I always say it is like my “art museum”. Anything from there is one of my favorites.
